It was an evening of gratitude, pride, and inspiration—marking a new chapter in the organization’s mission to empower through art.

It was an incredible honor for Godni to meet the legendary Charles Calello—an Emmy Award-winning music icon whose influence in the industry spans decades. Known for his work as an arranger and producer for countless chart-topping hits, Charles has left an indelible mark on the world of music.
Meeting someone of his caliber was both inspiring and humbling. Their conversation touched on creativity, legacy, and the power of music to move hearts and transform lives—values that deeply align with the mission of A Free Bird.

As the President and Founder of A Free Bird, Godni had the wonderful opportunity to connect with Mr. G, the beloved weather anchor from PIX11 News, whose enthusiasm for the arts and heartfelt storytelling brought new visibility to the organization’s mission.
Mr. G, along with his incredible producer Kim, created a beautiful and uplifting segment highlighting A Free Bird and its work empowering children affected by cancer through artistic expression. The story captured the spirit of the organization—hope, creativity, and resilience—and helped share it with an even broader audience across New York.
Getting to know Mr. G was not only a professional honor but a personal joy. His warmth, humor, and genuine passion for community uplift made the experience truly memorable. It was a shining reminder of the magic that happens when media, heart, and mission align.

In the early 2000s, while working tirelessly as a makeup artist in the vibrant streets of SoHo, NYC, Godni was constantly running from one production to another, juggling back-to-back gigs and immersing himself in the city’s bustling creative energy. One day, as he crossed the street, he turned left and was stunned to find himself standing right beside Alanis Morissette, the iconic singer and one of his biggest idols.
Caught off guard but excited, Godni watched as Alanis, ever gracious, asked her photographer to capture the moment. Nervously, Godni requested an autograph instead of a photo, feeling shy but hopeful. To his delight, she smiled warmly and signed the picture for him—a sweet, unexpected encounter that left a lasting impression. For Godni, that brief moment wasn’t just a celebrity encounter; it was an inspiring reminder of the incredible creative journeys he aspired to follow.

Not too long ago, Godni returned to Fashion Week 2015, collaborating with a multitude of talented professionals to bring designers’ visions to life. But this time, the experience was even more meaningful—because it was about opening new doors for the children of A Free Bird. Watching these brave young stars walk the runway was a powerful reminder of how moments like these can transform lives forever.
During the event, Godni had the privilege of meeting Janelle, whose remarkable professionalism and creativity left a strong impression. Her dedication to the craft and ability to bring fresh ideas to the table made the collaboration seamless and inspiring.
Godni was incredibly proud of Mia, the shining star of A Free Bird, whose courage and talent lit up the runway. His dear friend and AFB board member, Kalpana Patel, also joined to support the children and beautifully captured the event’s unforgettable moments with her photography. Through A Free Bird’s Artists Supporting Artists program, Godni was introduced to the extraordinary artist and humanitarian Alessandro Berni, founder of the prestigious Clio Art Fair and a key figure in the contemporary art scene, known for discovering emerging talent and showcasing them at major events like Art Basel Miami.
Alessandro immediately connected with Godni’s vision for A Free Bird—empowering children affected by cancer to express themselves through art. Recognizing the importance of this mission, he graciously invited Godni to speak and lead a fundraiser during the New York Art Fair. The event successfully raised vital funds, helping children become artists in their own right and providing them with a powerful outlet for creativity and healing. Alessandro’s passion and generosity have made him not just a supporter, but a true partner in bringing this vision to life.

It was a pleasure for Godni to be interviewed by Columbia University Radio for A Free Bird Magazine, where he spoke about his role as an ambassador for childhood cancer. I had the incredible honor of serving the community at a lively Wild West-themed Family Day in the Hamptons, hosted by the Albert Einstein College of Medicine. This joyful gathering was more than just a celebration—it was a heartfelt mission that raised over $325,000 to support groundbreaking research into autism and other serious developmental disorders.
Sponsored by Bobbi Brown Cosmetics, I was able to use my creative talents to bring smiles and wonder to the children’s faces, adding a touch of magic to their day. One of the highlights was meeting the radiant supermodel Christie Brinkley, a dedicated board member whose passion for this cause shines as brightly as her presence. Sharing this experience with such inspiring people reaffirmed the power of community, creativity, and compassion in making a real difference.

In 2017, Godni had continued his special tradition—an award ceremony dedicated to recognizing exceptional individuals whose leadership, compassion, and dedication uplift not only A Free Bird but the world around them. One such individual was Lenia Batas, who received the Award of Leadership Excellence. Her unwavering support for the organization and her consistent commitment to uplifting others made her a natural choice for this prestigious recognition.
As someone who finds deep joy in celebrating others, Godni proudly served as the award presenter—a role he cherishes for the opportunity it gives him to spotlight those who embody integrity, heart, and service. The gala was filled with emotion, gratitude, and inspiration. Another unforgettable moment in my career took place at New York Fashion Week. My friend Catherine Schuller, director at the runway production company HiTech Moda, invited me to speak at one of her shows. This incredible opportunity allowed me to introduce one of our A Free Bird children—a brave young girl who was thrilled to step onto the runway as a fashion model. Walking beside her and sharing the stage was deeply moving. Together, we brought awareness of pediatric cancer to an audience of industry insiders and fashion lovers, turning the spotlight toward the courage and creativity of children facing this challenge. It was truly a special experience that blended fashion, advocacy, and hope.

While teaching at a local cosmetology school, Godni was offered unexpected support from one of his students, who used her connections to help him secure an interview in New York City. To his surprise, the opportunity was with the prestigious Women’s Wear Daily.
Eager and hopeful, Godni arrived with his distinctive Euro-centric portfolio and met with editor Brooke Magnaghi. Although Brooke admired his unique style, she advised that he needed more local experience. Undeterred, Godni returned six months later with an updated portfolio, only to face another rejection.
Despite the setbacks, Godni remained focused and persistent. Six months after that, his dedication paid off when he was finally booked to work on the cover and feature article of the very magazine that had once turned him away—a testament to resilience and the power of perseverance.
